One of the most famous rarities of the Canal Zone, of which only four used examples have been recorded. A common characteristic of each example is the blunt or clipped perforations from scissors separation on one side, suggesting that these may have originated from sheets of stamps to make booklets. The first example of this great rarity was not discovered until 1932, by George Wirth, who removed it from a postcard used in 1913, suggesting that this error was included in the delivery of August 22, 1911. It once resided in the Edward Conger and Robert Cunliffe collections. The second example (offered in this sale) was found in the 1950s.
